Most property owners in South Florida ignore their notice of proposed property taxes, or Truth in Millage (TRIM) notices, until it is too late! That is a very bad idea. If you wait until you receive your bill in November to complain about your taxes, you will lose your right to file an appeal.
Do not assume that the assessment in your notice is 100% accurate. Mistakes can happen, and if you do not appeal your notice by the impending deadlines, you may be paying more than your fair share.
If you think that your property tax assessment may be wrong, the deadlines to appeal your 2016 property taxes are:
- Broward County – September 19, 2016
- Miami-Dade County – September 19, 2016
- Palm Beach County – September 16, 2016
If you believe your assessment is inaccurate, you will need to file an appeal with the appropriate county Value Adjustment Board (VAB), by the dates listed above. Contact our offices for more information about the VAB process. We would be happy to help you file your appeal.
