MBAF ranked as #7 on the South Florida Business Journal's "Corporate Philanthropy" list – Corporate Giving/Corporate Foundations

Tony Argiz - Giving Guide Reception 2018

The culture of volunteerism is deeply woven into the fabric of MBAF, which is why we are proud to have one of the most robust philanthropy programs in South Florida. Whether through charitable giving, employee volunteerism or other activities, we continue to find fresh, creative ways to give back, while engaging our employees in the process.

We are grateful to be ranked #7 on the South Florida Business Journal’s “Corporate Philanthropy” list and to know that despite challenges that South Florida and the world have faced this year, the spirit of philanthropy continues to thrive. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with amazing individuals and deserving organizations to help improve lives and grow the communities where we live and work.

A letter from Tony Argiz

None of us would be who we are without the countless opportunities and sacrifices others have made for us. Like many of you, I came from humble beginnings, traveling to the U.S. from Cuba as one of more than 14,000 children that were part of Operation Pedro Pan. While this was an extremely difficult decision for my parents, who I would not see for nearly five years after leaving my home country, their sacrifice gave me the opportunity to live the American dream. Our rise to success is due to our grit and perseverance through adversity, but also the kindness of others. We now have the privilege to give back to the communities that took a chance on us, supported us, and have helped us fulfill our dreams.

Mother Teresa once said, “We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” As Chairman and CEO of MBAF, I’ve worked to instill the value of giving and volunteerism into all our employees, because philanthropy can have a transformative effect on ourselves and the lives of others in ways that we cannot even begin to imagine. With the season of giving just around the corner, I urge each of you to believe in that ocean and the opportunities that wait on the other side, just as my parents did in Cuba many years ago.

As you read through this year’s Giving Guide and see the incredible work these organizations are doing for South Florida, I hope that you are inspired to reach out and help their causes. We have the power to truly make this community a better place.
