Steven Morrison, principal at nationally recognized public accounting firm MBAF, and Wolfgang Pinther, Director of Marketing at MBAF, have been named finalists for the accounting and marketing categories of South Florida Business & Wealth’s Up & Comer Awards.
The fifth annual Up & Comer Awards is a unique awards program created by South Florida Business & Wealth magazine to honor young professionals who have achieved excellence in their careers, shown a commitment to their community and demonstrated leadership across the tri-county area.
Consistently ranked one of the best places to work by publications like the South Florida Business Journal and Accounting Today, MBAF encourages the professional and personal growth of all their employees by creating an engaging and dynamic workplace environment, through employee incentives like flexible work hours, encouraging volunteer work in the community and offering fun activities such as massage days and ice cream breaks. The firm also promotes the continuation of its employee’s education through training programs like MBAF University, that help employees prepare for whatever is next in their career. All of this influences a corporate culture that attracts top level professionals, who are eager to come to work each and every day.
One of those professionals, Steven Morrison, CPA, serves as an engagement partner on audits of SEC issuers and non-public entities in various industries, including those with international operations. An integral member of the MBAF team, Morrison has risen through the ranks since joining the firm in 2002, and was named a principal in the audit department in 2015. In the past year, Morrison has continued to make a meaningful impact at the firm at the regional and international level, offering highly skilled services within assurance, financial statement services, litigation support, risk advisory, SEC services and technical accounting.
Morrison is a member of the AICPA’s Auditing Standards Board (ASB), a senior committee for auditing, attestation and quality control applicable to the performance and issuance of audit and attestation reports for non-issuers. He is also a former chair of the Florida Institute of CPAs (FICPA) Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards Committee, which develops responses to exposure drafts of authoritative accounting and auditing bodies such as the AICPA, Financial Accounting Standards Board and Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. A past chair of the FICPA’s Miami-Downtown Chapter, Morrison also serves on the Board of Trustees of the FICPA’s Educational Foundation, where he has presented scholarships to accounting students at Florida’s universities.
With over a decade of experience in the marketing field working with service and product lines, including both B2B and B2C, Pinther brings his expertise in strategic planning, brand identity, client communication, community relations, media relations, content marketing and corporate culture to MBAF. Since joining the firm in September 2015, Pinther has implemented an internal and external rebranding campaign at MBAF, focusing on fostering a strong corporate culture, increasing employee communication, identifying a new look and feel for all the firm’s marketing pieces and launching MBAF’s first dedicated professional development program.
Pinther is an active member of his community participating in various organizations such as the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, where he serves as chair of Marketing the Chamber Committee, and the United Way of Miami-Dade. He also graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University where he was captain of the men’s varsity tennis team.
